In any parent child relationships we can pass on undesirable traits in our parenting, in the book Insomnia by Stephen King, a man beats his wife for years, including before and during her pregnancy with their child as well as after, eventually after one especially gruesome episode where an ambulance, cops, and neighbors were all involved she was convinced to get a restraining order against him and press charges. But the only reason the main character was able to make her take that risk was by opening her eyes and making her face the reality of what the abuse was going to do to her child as she grew up, especially if the father turned on her, but even if he didn't ever hit the daughter, just growing up in the environment where that was the example of how women (and how she) would be treated when she was older will send her down a dark path including her own abusive relationship.
While some claims state that humans as a whole can over take any inherited flaw because of some redeeming factor there are lots of people that have come to terms with a reality that no matter what we will never be able to completely rid our race of our deep seated evil although it shows up more in some places than others it will always be there. This does not mean we cannot learn to cope and work around our unwanted characteristics but simply that we will never make them disappear without even a trace left to sneak its way into our actions, words, and lives. These flaws are standing in the way of the human kinds full potential, if a large portion of individuals focused on making improvements for themselves to work on specific parts of their personality we could make progress on many issues that are influential to successful life. Some examples human flaws are as follows; enviousness, defensiveness, aloofness, volatility, eccentricity, entitlement, being unreliable, meticulous scrutiny of others, and the inability to communicate. When we exhibit these patterns, especially from a parent to a child, we can imprint on others and pass on hindering personalities from generation to generation. Sara's post Humanity's Flaws With Child Abuse8/23/2017 0 Comments While some people say humankind will overcome any flaws, humankind does have a tragic flaw that could result in its destruction, such as child abuse. Many children in this world struggle with or have struggled with abuse in some sort of way. Some examples of this is physical, verbal, and sexual abuse. Some children have even experienced neglect. Children around the world are having to deal with abuse from their parents, legal guardians, people around them, and even from strangers. Children and even adults that are or have experienced some sort of abuse at some point in their life; it can be hard for them to come out and express whats going on or what has happened to them. There are many sites that give a safe place for people to talk about abuse and get help or even learn other people’s stories and then maybe speak up about what is happening or what did happen. There is many movies, books, articles, and even tv shows that express child abuse but most people that it’s actually happened too are scared to speak up because they think that this tragedy will never end. In the book Insomnia by Stephen king, A man abuses his wife for years even after the birth of their child. He also physically abuses his child after it is born. From this book, I have taken into account that from you being too afraid to speak up about what is actually going on and keep it a secret, you can be putting other people such as your children into the exact same situation. While some people may say that humankind can overcome any flaw, although this can be true to some extent. Humans can’t overcome everything. This doesn’t mean that over time we can’t fix things in our society because we have seen some things improve. But in today’s day and age we still do have things we need to fix because we can exhibit others negatively and leave bad footsteps for more people end up following.

Back in the beginning of the year we started looking at our wellness plans, this happened to line up well for me with a major reconstructive surgery I was having on my knee. Because of that unfortunate event I choose to focus mainly on injury management for my plan and it still applies due to the long recovery time of the injury. A challenge that I have been facing and will continue to have to deal with for 6 more months at a minimum is keeping up with the physical therapy and rebuilding all the muscle and balance lost. This takes time management skills and basic self motivation but a lot of people I talked to had trouble keeping up with the routine they had been assigned.
health.usnews.com/health-news/patient-advice/articles/2015/08/31/4-ways-to-stick-to-your-physical-therapy-homework This link will take you to a page that helped me stay on top of all the exercises and stretches they hand to you. It talks about all the struggles from finding time in your day, to connecting and communicating with your therapist honestly and thus effectively. A perspective that you wouldn't think about unless you are in physical therapy is how much your injury affects your sleep and how much your injury, sleep ties into every aspect of wellness and is part of our everyday life. https://www.instructables.com/id/Leather-Backpack/ Back in the beginning of January I was sitting in maker class, and I thought to myself "I can make a leather backpack and an instructable in a month" I was very wrong as it turns out, but its done now, hope you enjoy. Although it is 2 months late I regret nothing about my decision to start this project, I am really pleased with how it turned out, and I am hoping I can soon actually use it, which was one of my goals for the project. I have done 2 projects involving leather in the past but I have never done an all leather project. I developed my skills in sewing particularly and leather working in general, which was another goal for this project, I really like working with leather and I am currently starting another project for my dad. So even with all the challenges, running out of time, running out of leather, breaking 5 sewing needles, I came out even more motivated to try another leather project.
Last Thursday me and half my creative studies class went on a trip to the famous Di Rosa art preserve, I think we all had different take aways. people had negative and positive ideas about the art and I think that's a big part of what makes art beautiful the fact that thousands of people can look at the same colors arranged or mediums molded and each have different thoughts, its about the viewer, art would be pointless with no one for it to reach. But the viewer can be fooled, as long as it looks like someone important made it people will accept it as art. If some dude on the street strung sponges together it would be trash but if someone making a name for themselves does it and puts it on a stand in a show with a price tag its meaningful and showing talent. So what intrigues me is, is the art about the art? the colors and shapes in 2 dimensions or 3 make us feel emotions, but art is meaningless without emotion, it serves no purpose. So an artist must reach people or remind them of something, but where is the line drawn? if something can be art or not just based on who made it, is it really art? or just peoples perception? While walking through the different buildings and exploring the art, you pick up on certain themes, because its modern art from northern California its got a different feel to it than other art museums where its from people all over the world. I felt personally connected to the art. but because its a collection from the personal taste of one person you can pick up on different repeating styles, some people thought some of the art was more pornography than study of the human form. My favorite part of wandering the halls was figuring out the double meanings in the art. in my first photo you can see the big nosed head in the coffee cup, I'd like to think his name is Joe, so it could be a cup of Joe. those things are sprinkles about the museum and make it much fun to explore and not like other museums where all the art is hundreds of years old and bland to young people. I would thank every person involved with the preserve if I could, I thought is was an amazing experience and am so grateful Ii got to go. Thank You.
So for my groups oceanography project we were all interested in building stuff, this seemed like a tough one to demonstrate, with chemistry they knew what they were studying, ph of the water and such. But with building stuff, well building what? whose building? these questions lead us to some very interesting research, lots of people were building things to help out the ocean, some using rotary fishing traps to count how many fish were in rivers and release them again. One in particular that caught our eye was what they called a "Salmon Cannon". we figured this would be nothing we could base a real project off because it just sounded so ridiculous. As we read on Whooshh Industries website and watched the video on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver that explained it, we began to realize we had an idea that would work. We knew that the "cannon" worked for salmon in the Seattle area where they started the idea to move salmon over dams there, but our question is would it work here to help them get back to creeks where they used to lay their eggs before we damed them off. My first standard was species population, because of the creek dams and also pollution the salmon can no longer go back up the creek they were born in to lay their own eggs. There have been a significant drop in salmon fry and salmon who come back from the ocean to lay eggs successfully, the fish cannon should offer some solution to this issue. My second standard was humans relationship with the environment around them, the whole topic of building stuff for the ocean has to do with this and by installing salmon cannons around in various water sources, maybe even utilizing them for other kinds of fish, we are involving the community in their surroundings, and who doesn't want to find out whats going down when they hear there's going to be a salmon cannon in the Napa river? My hypothesis for this experiment is that it would prove to be a valuable resource in our river to help restore the salmon to their original numbers if we had the funding to actually install one after this prototype. Thank you for reading, here are my sources:

In our experiment we will be making a smaller model of a much bigger project up in Seattle, they have made a tool to transport fish over dams to improve population. By sucking salmon into tubes that propel them over the dam. For our model we will not be using salmon but rather guppies, and instead of a river just a 11.3 liter tank, this makes the whole process less of a challenge. Our goal is to just get the fish from one end of the table to the next. with out getting them sucked in to the pump, or hurt in any way. When we're first testing the experiment we will be using the fake rubber fish that fishermen use for bait as practice to make sure it is safe for live animals.
First we planned out what supplies we needed.
This is David in the midst of timing our trusty pump. for our experiment we went through the process 3 times and averaged the times out to get the table below, we did notice for the most part that when the height changed the time changed accordingly but there were some cases where it didn't quite fit what we had predicted, some times it would go faster. We used a pump designed for transporting wine but it was cleaned prior to this experiment and would not intoxicate the fish.
So as someone who is not exactly gifted with computer skills I've spent lots of time turning to my friends and class mates for how to do something. This post is basically how to make friends and improve your collaboration skills by not knowing how to do things, and in the end you will have learned a lot about what you had to ask about, that's very important too. 1. The very first thing you need to know is that you will get no where if you don't ask for questions and ask for help, you might feel stupid at first having to be maybe the only one who didn't know something but trust me if you wait longer then have to ask later in the year or get a lower grade because you didn't know it will be so much worse. 2. the second thing you want to do is have one person you can turn to when you don't know something simple, which some people might make fun of you for, I had to turn to Chloe here on the left for many things. 3. Get to know the person next to you, they will be there always, and will connect you with "masters" of the classroom who know how to do things you couldn't even dream of. this is Josie, on the right here, who I couldn't count how many times had to remind me what the undo key board command is (its control Z by the way I did learn it). Also as you can see below you might need a group of people to help you solve a problem, this is an amazing opportunity because now you can all share tidbits of information you have because you might know something they don't but they might know something you don't. as well as that it strengthens your ties with the people you're going to be working all year with. With this project, flying words, we did most our work in Adobe After Effects, which has many elements and is a complicated program for a fellow non computer pal but even if you're not working with a professional program, ask questions, learn as much as you can in the beginning. Thank you for reading! I hope I helped some of you out with social skills in a computer class, never be afraid to ask! |
